These steps apply to Quirk on Android, iPhone and iPad. The same short help is in the app under Settings > About > Help, also offline.
How to play
Tap Play or Continue. Read Rules for the puzzle's goal and controls. There is no time limit. Use Undo to reverse a move or Reset to clear the current board. Progress is saved on your device.
Hints
Tap Hint for help with the next step. Explain this step gives more detail. Use this step can make the suggested move. You earn a hint every three solved puzzles. When you run out, you can watch an optional video for an extra hint. If no video is available, you get the hint anyway. With Ad-free, Get an extra hint works without a video. Hints and puzzles never require an Ad-free purchase.
Puzzle types and difficulty
Open Settings > Puzzle types to turn a type off. Keep at least 2 types on. You can also turn whole puzzle groups off in Settings.
Open Settings > Difficulty to make new puzzles easier or harder. While playing, open Pause > I'm stuck for more choices, such as another puzzle or one step easier. Replacing that puzzle does not count as a solved level.
Back up your progress
Quirk has no account and no sync of its own. Your progress is stored on your device. Your device's own backup may include it, but do not rely on that alone.
Back up your progress before you uninstall Quirk or change devices. Open Settings > Your progress > Back up progress and keep the file somewhere safe, outside Quirk. Uninstalling may remove the progress on your device.
Moving to a new phone or tablet
- On your old device, open Settings > Your progress > Back up progress.
- Copy that file to your new device, for example with a storage service or message you choose.
- In Quirk on the new device, open Settings > Your progress > Restore progress and choose the file.
The backup file is the same on Android, iPhone and iPad, so you can also use it to move between Android and an iPhone or iPad. Your Ad-free purchase does not move between Google Play and the App Store. See Ad-free and restoring purchases below.
Restore replaces progress
Restore progress replaces your current progress and settings with the backup. The two games are not combined. Quirk asks before anything changes. Your age range, reminders and statistics choice on this device stay as they are.
Restore purchases checks Ad-free with Google Play or the App Store. It does not restore puzzles. Restore progress loads your saved game from a backup file. It does not restore purchases.
If your saved game cannot be read
Your data has been kept. Choose Restore progress to pick a backup file. Quirk checks the file before asking you to restore it. You can cancel without changing your saved data.
Help and report a problem opens the offline Help page. You can open Report a problem there or visit Support. Start a new game asks you first. The unreadable save stays on your device.
Reminders
Choose reminders and a time in Settings > Reminders. The Daily reminder is off until you turn it on. Reminders for your week goal, a break and a saved puzzle work once you allow notifications in your device settings. Reminders stay quiet on days you play. Turn each kind off in Settings. Your device may delay them.
Ad-free and restoring purchases
Ad-free is a one-time purchase, not a subscription. On Android, you buy it through Google Play. On iPhone and iPad, you buy it through the App Store. The price shown in the app comes from that store.
To restore it, connect to the internet and use the same store account that bought it: your Google Play account on Android or your Apple Account on iPhone and iPad. Then tap Settings > Ad-free > Restore purchases. Previously verified ownership works offline.
If no purchase is found, check the store account and try again. If the store is unavailable, try later. Clear all data and progress backups do not create or remove purchase ownership. After reinstalling, restore through the same store.
Purchases do not transfer between stores. A purchase from Google Play cannot be restored on an iPhone or iPad, and an App Store purchase cannot be restored on Android. Use Restore progress and your backup file to move your saved game.
For refunds, use Google Play's purchase support for a Play purchase, or Apple's Report a Problem page at reportaproblem.apple.com for an App Store purchase. Quirk notices changes to ownership on successful store checks.
Privacy options
- Settings > Ad-free > Privacy options opens Google's consent options when Google requires this entry.
- Settings > Ad-free > Age range changes the age range you chose at the first start (13-17 or 18 or older). It stays on your device and only decides which kinds of ads may show.
- Settings > About > Share stats without personal details turns Quirk's anonymous puzzle statistics on or off. They stay off until you choose Share stats; Quirk asks once.
- Turn reminders off in Settings > Reminders or your device's notification settings.
- Settings > Your progress > Clear all data resets progress, settings, your age range and the statistics choice. Saved reports, purchase ownership, exports, backups and remote records need separate handling.
See the Privacy Policy for details, including restored statistics choices and deletion.
Report a problem
Open Settings > About > Report a problem. Say what you did, what you expected and what happened. Use Show the report to review a new report before copying or sending it. Remove personal information from your note.
Send report uploads only after your tap. You can also use Copy report and email it to the address below. Crash reports are not uploaded automatically. Saved reports have a Delete action.
For purchase help, describe the store message and app version. Do not send passwords, payment-card details or purchase tokens.
Contact
Open Report a problem to tell us what happened. You can copy a report offline. Sending a report or opening Support needs the internet.
